FAQ & troubleshooting
The questions we're asked most often. Questions about workflows are on the Shopify Flow page.
A code doesn't work at checkout
Look the code up with Look up a discount code on the Discount codes page first. It tells you which discount the code belongs to and shows a checklist of everything that can stop it: not started, ended, no uses left, segment or market only, subscription only, minimum purchase, selected products, and combinations. The same checks in detail:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Set status | Codes work once the set is Running or Completed. In queue means they don't exist in Shopify yet. |
| Start and end dates | Dates are in your store's timezone. A code that starts "today at 14:00" in New York isn't active yet at 13:00 New York time. |
| Already used | With Total uses = 1, a code works once. With one use per customer, a customer who used any code from the set can't use another. |
| Products | If the discount applies to specific products or collections, the cart must contain them. |
| Minimum | The cart must reach the minimum amount or quantity. On app discounts, only eligible items count. |
| Eligibility | A segment-only code works only when checkout recognises the customer as a member of the segment, usually because they are signed in. A market-only code works only for buyers in that market. |
| Combinations | If another discount is already applied, both must allow combining. Otherwise Shopify keeps the better one or refuses the code. |
| Buy X Get Y | The "gets" item must be in the cart. Shopify doesn't add it. |
| App discounts | Order + free shipping, item-limit, product + free shipping and fixed amount off shipping codes need DiscountFix to be installed. |
Sets and generation
My set is stuck on "In queue" or "Running".
Your store's sets are processed one after another, 250 codes per step; several stores are processed in parallel. A set waiting behind your own earlier sets stays In queue until they finish. The In-progress card on the Discount codes page shows the progress and the estimated time left. If it hasn't moved for over an hour, contact us with the set ID.
My set shows "Failed".
Shopify refused to create the discount with these settings, for example an end date before the start, or a product that was deleted in the meantime. Waiting won't fix it. Create a new set with corrected settings. If you can't see what's wrong, send us the set ID and we'll tell you Shopify's exact reason.
Some of my codes were rejected.
A specific code is rejected when the same code already exists in your store, on this or another discount. Codes differing only in upper/lower case count as the same. See Rejected codes for how to find them and add them again.
Can I change the value, products or dates after creating a set?
Yes, with Edit settings. Value, products, minimum, customers, combinations, usage limits and dates can all be changed, and the change applies to every code. The discount type and the codes themselves can't be changed. See Edit a set.
Can my codes work on subscriptions?
Yes. In the Purchase type card choose Subscription or Both, then choose whether the discount applies to the first payment, a number of payments, or all recurring payments. For existing sets, change it with Edit settings. On Buy X Get Y, the purchase type is in the Customer buys card. You need a subscription app to sell subscriptions. See Purchase type & subscriptions.
How do I extend a campaign?
Open Edit settings on the set and move the end date. Expired codes start working again. To do it automatically, use the Flow action Extend a discount set's end date.
I deleted a set, but its codes still work.
That's expected. Deleting removes the set from DiscountFix only; the discount and codes stay in Shopify. To stop them, delete or deactivate the discount in Shopify under Discounts. See Delete a set.
Where is the discount in Shopify?
Under Discounts in your Shopify admin, with the set's title. Or click Open in Shopify in the set's details. All batches added to a set are codes of that one discount.
Codes
Can I delete or deactivate a single code?
Not from DiscountFix. Open the discount in Shopify (Open in Shopify), find the code in its code list and delete it there.
Is there a limit on how many codes my store can have?
Yes. Shopify allows 20,000,000 codes per store, including expired ones and codes from other apps. The Clean up page shows your count and lets you delete the unused codes of ended sets. See Clean up unused codes.
How many codes can one set have?
Up to 50,000 per batch (or your remaining monthly allowance), and you can add as many batches as you like. They all share one discount and one set ID.
Are codes case-sensitive?
No. Customers can type summer10 or SUMMER10. Random codes are generated in uppercase.
Can I export only the codes that haven't been used?
On Pro and Unlimited: open the set's Stats, filter Status by Unused, then Export codes. The export from the Discount codes list always contains all codes.
Can DiscountFix create gift cards?
No, only discount codes. A fixed-value code, e.g. $25 off, works like a gift card at checkout, but it's used in full on one order instead of keeping a balance. For automatic $X rewards, see the purchase reward recipe.
Can I set sales channels (Online Store, POS) for the codes?
Shopify doesn't let apps set Sales channel access. Open the discount in Shopify with Open in Shopify and set it there. It only controls where the discount is promoted, not where it can be redeemed.
Customers
Can I make a code work for one specific customer only?
Shopify doesn't allow apps to lock a code to one named customer. The alternatives:
- Create a customer segment in Shopify (e.g. customers tagged
vip) and choose it under Eligibility. Only customers in the segment can use the codes. - Give each customer a unique single-use code, by export or with Flow. Only that customer receives it, even though anyone holding it could use it once.
Can I see which customer used a code?
On Pro and Unlimited, the set's Stats shows the orders each code was used on, with a link to each order in Shopify. For codes handed out by Flow, the Reserved codes screen shows who received each code and whether it was used.
Why can't I find my segment in the list?
The first 100 segments of your store are listed. Segments named like Segment #123 (unnamed segments) are hidden. Give the segment a name in Shopify and reload the page.
Plans and account
My remaining allowance didn't go up after I deleted a set.
Codes count toward the month they were created in, whether or not the set still exists. The allowance resets on the 1st. See What counts.
What happens if I uninstall DiscountFix?
- Your subscription is cancelled by Shopify.
- Standard discounts and their codes (Percentage, Fixed value, Free shipping, Buy X Get Y) stay in Shopify and keep working.
- App discounts (order + free shipping, item limit, product + free shipping, fixed amount off shipping) stop working, because they're calculated by DiscountFix.
- Flow actions and triggers stop, and redemptions are no longer tracked.
Is the app available in other languages?
The app is in English. Codes, titles and prefixes can use any characters your Shopify store accepts.
