Discount types

Percentage

A percentage off the price of the products the code applies to.

• Value: from above 0 up to 100.
• Applies to all products, specific collections or specific products. See Applies to.
• Works with a minimum purchase amount or quantity, segments or markets, combinations, usage limits and dates.
• Optional maximum discount amount, e.g. 20% off, up to 500.
• Optional discount tiers, by spend (10% from 1,000, 20% from 2,000) or by number of items (buy 3, get 10%; buy 5, get 20%).
• Optional: skip products that are already on sale.
• Created as a standard Shopify Amount off products discount, unless you add an item limit, a maximum discount amount, discount tiers, free shipping, skip sale items or checks at checkout.

Fixed value

A fixed amount off, in your store currency.

• Value: any amount above 0. The currency shown next to the field is your store currency.
• By default the amount comes off once per order, spread across the products it applies to. A €5 code on a cart with three eligible items takes €5 off in total, not €5 per item.
• To take the amount off each eligible item, choose specific collections or products and untick Only apply discount once per order. With an item limit it always comes off each discounted unit, up to the limit.

Free shipping

Makes shipping free on the order.

• Has no value or product selection. Add a minimum if you want "free shipping over €50".
• The Shipping discounts combination option is not shown for this type.
• Limit it to Selected countries, and tick Exclude shipping rates over a certain amount so the code only covers rates up to that price. See Countries & shipping rates. Both can be changed later in Edit settings.

Fixed amount off shipping New

Shipping discount → Fixed amount off shipping, on Free shipping sets.

• Takes a set amount off shipping, for example $10, instead of making it free. Shopify's own free shipping discount can't do this, so the set is created as an app discount.
• The amount comes off each shipment. A rate below the amount ships free; the customer never gets money back.
• The amount is in your store currency and is converted when the customer pays in another currency.
• Selected countries and a minimum work as on free shipping. With selected countries, the discount shows once the customer has entered a shipping address. Exclude shipping rates over a certain amount is not available.
• After creation you can change the amount, countries and minimum in Edit settings, but not switch between free shipping and a fixed amount. Create a new set for that.

Buy X Get Y

Customers buy certain items and get other items free or discounted.

Buy X Get Y has no separate minimum card; the "Customer buys" requirement is the minimum. After creation you can change the discounted value, quantity and uses per order, but not the products.

Amount off order + Free shipping New

One code that takes a percentage or fixed amount off the order and makes shipping free.

• Order discount type: Percentage or Fixed amount, then a Value.
• Free shipping is always included. You don't need to set anything for it.
• Applies to: with All products, the discount comes off the whole order. With collections or products selected, it comes off the total of those items only, and free shipping applies when the cart contains at least one of them.
• A minimum counts only the selected items.

At checkout the customer sees two lines: 15% OFF ORDER (or 10 OFF ORDER) and FREE SHIPPING.

Item limit Option

Only apply to a limited number of items per order — on Percentage and Fixed value sets.

Enter how many units get the discount. Extra units in the cart stay at full price.

• Units are discounted in the order they appear in the cart.
• With a limit, a fixed amount comes off each discounted unit.
• At checkout the line reads e.g. 20% OFF 1 ITEM.
• After creation you can change the number, but not remove the limit (unless the set also has free shipping or a maximum discount amount). Create a new set to go back to an unlimited discount.

Maximum discount amount Option

Set a maximum discount amount: on Percentage sets, and on Amount off order + Free shipping with a percentage.

The percentage never takes off more than this amount per order, however large the cart is.

• Enter the amount in your store currency. Customers paying in another currency get the same cap, converted at Shopify's exchange rate.
• At checkout the discount line keeps its label (e.g. 20% OFF), and the amount taken off is the cap.
• It works together with the item limit and free shipping.
• After creation you can change or remove the cap from Edit settings. On a Percentage set it can only be removed if the set keeps an item limit or free shipping. A set created without a cap can't get one later: create a new set instead.

Discount tiers Option

Use discount tiers: on Percentage and Fixed value sets.

Up to 5 tiers. Tier by sets what a tier counts: Amount spent or Number of items. The highest tier the cart reaches applies; below the first tier the code gives no discount.

• Only the products the discount applies to count toward a tier (see Applies to). Products skipped as already on sale don't count either.
• Number of items counts every unit of the discounted products, across all of them: 2 of one product and 3 of another make 5. Use whole numbers.
• Enter spend amounts in your store currency. Customers paying in another currency get the same tiers, converted at Shopify's exchange rate. Item tiers need no conversion.
• A fixed amount tier comes off the order once. Tiers work together with the item limit, the maximum discount amount and free shipping.
• After creation you can change the tiers and what they count from Edit settings. A set created without tiers can't get them later: create a new set instead.

Product discount + free shipping Option

Include free shipping — on Percentage and Fixed value sets.

• One code applies both the product discount and free shipping.
• Shipping is free only when the cart qualifies for the product discount: it contains at least one eligible item and meets the minimum.
• You can use it together with the item limit.
